Multilingual Online Exams - an Indian EdTech system by Clarefy

The Best 7 Free and Open Source Exam Software Solutions

Are you a parent who wish your kid to appear online exams in a language of his/her choice? We know the answer is a big Yes. Clarefy provides the facility free at https://www.clarefy.com/clarefy-e-exam/Registers

When it comes to online exams, a majority of these exams are being conducted in English and not in regional languages. It might be a surprising fact but only 30% of the Indian Population can speak English- to varying degrees. However, only a third of that percentage, 10% of the total population of India can speak and write in English fluently.

Recent research revealed that children who are taught in the language they speak at home or within their community for the first eight years of their lives develop good language abilities in all other languages. It might come as a wonder to many that education in one’s local tongue can improve the mental ability of children. There are certain aspects of a native tongue that cannot be compensated by foreign languages. Clarefy found it mandatory to promote the respective mother tongues online.

According to the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis in the subject area of linguistics, a person’s language has an immense impact on his or her cognitive abilities. Clarefy is the first Indian EdTech to implement multi-lingual language facility into its existing online examination system.

Can you think of words in your native tongue that do not have a suitable or well-matched word in English? Can you think of edible items like local fruits and vegetables with no English name?

In summary, children educated in regional language imbibe the benefits of thought process that has passed on for thousands of years. Not to mention, there are several cultural specifics, concepts and also certain philosophical doctrines that can be taught only in the native language.

Learning in a known language improves the quality of education for all learners across all age groups. Furthermore, it is believed that educating in the native tongue can develop the foundation skills of a society like literacy and critical thinking.

A study conducted by a social media research agency called Mindshift revealed some surprising results on vernacular websites.  It was noted that the growth rate of vernacular websites was much higher at 56% when compared to English websites that grew at 11%.

To sum it up, the benefits of making technology, especially internet available in a regional language is listed below:

(i) Internet access can be made available to the most interior parts of the country.

(ii) It will serve as a source of knowledge to the less privileged.

(iii) It will help students and elders with limited access to books and libraries.

(iv) There will be better growth in smaller towns.

What are the benefits of conducting an online exam in Regional Languages?

When technology can be modified to make internet content available in regional languages, making online exams available in native languages can benefit society in several ways.

According to IMRB, if the internet is made available in all regional languages of India, it will spread the reach of technology to 10.72 million of India’s rural population.

Following are a few ways in which the availability of online exams can benefit society:

1. It helps in the growth of literacy in smaller towns and cities of India.

2. It improves job opportunities for people who have no source of livelihood.

3. It improves prospects for people with a dying ancestral occupation or livelihood.

4. It will promote development and growth across all section of the society.

5. Online exams in state languages can present unlimited opportunities to the students in the smaller towns just like their counterparts in the urban areas.

6. It helps in a better assessment of the students.

7. It eliminates the barrier faced by students who are not well versed in the English language.

8. It can make education available to even the largely marginalized societies and tribal communities with limited scope for education.

9. Availability of online exams in native tongue can encourage the academically-weak students to choose certificate programs that might improve their job opportunities.

Students can register free at https://www.clarefy.com/clarefy-e-exam/Registers to appear the online exams in their regional language.

Self Study ? - Whats it all about ? What are its Benefits and Strategies ?

Students appearing in Board Exams in ICSE, IB and CBSE Boards need to remember that ‘Self Study, Self-Exploration, Self-Empowerment are the virtues of great education’. In the competitive world of today, students need to learn as much as they can, from anywhere and everywhere they can.

A great number of ever-growing online courses and internet encyclopedias have made Self Study easy for students. Hence, best possible use of the internet is the solution of many a problem.

What is self-study:

With the number of fresh educational technologies cropping up every day, education is no longer confined to traditional classroom teaching only.

Self-study or Autodidacticism, as it is called, is education without the help of traditional masters or institutions. An autodidact is free to choose his space, time, topic, rhythm as well as study material he needs to concentrate upon, thus resulting in better absorption of knowledge and its output.

For students of different Boards, it is important to indulge in regular Self Study. Self-study, contradictory to the general opinion, is complimentary to classroom studies.

Therefore, when done in consonance with each other, they bring wonderful results.

Benefits of Self Study:

Self-study is applauded for being extremely effective. Once back home, when a student searches online about the topics he has been taught in school, it enhances his ability to gather further information about those topics and retain them effectively.

In senior classes it is especially important for students to do so. Various projects need to be studied using different online sites to collect further information.

It can also help in enhancing transcripts. There are online classes covering wide range of subjects like Mathematics , physics, Chemistry, History, Political Science etc. Various lectures, quizzes, mock test papers are available online that a student can complete on his own.

Hence, self-assessment can be done easily so as to assess how much one has studied and what else has to be learned further about any topic. Self- study gives an edge to a student over others due to his in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Further, students may prefer to go beyond their prescribed curriculum to explore the areas of their interest. Once academic aid is sought and found in one subject, an increased interest to explore other subjects may follow.

In doing self- studies a student can explore his area of interest or his requirement along with the choice and pace of the subjects and topics he has been taught in classroom.

Self-study is a time saver, time being important as well as limited for students. A student can choose to do self-study from the confines of his home rather than getting tuitions from far off places. Another reason for its popularity is the advantage of it being cost effective.

Strategy to do self-study:

Self- learning seems to be a challenge in the beginning but with the passage of time, it becomes satisfying, effective and more systematic.

A determined and self-disciplined approach can make studies a lot easier and more interesting. A convenient time, space and schedule is required to do the learning all by oneself.

Also, a correct format and a proper schedule is required to take advantage of the plenty of online techniques available at the internet. Realistic goals need to be set up adjusting the workload accordingly.

Different tasks must be scheduled or rescheduled on daily or weekly basis to make learning fun.

While studying two things must be taken care of. Firstly, a proper technique needs to be followed during studies. Short breaks must be taken at regular intervals to make retention easy and break the monotony.

It is important to keep the mind open and fresh while taking new lessons or doing assignments. Secondly, school studies need to be followed up the same day through self-studies. This will help in absorbing the concepts easily and firmly and will not require any cramming up during exam time.

A self-disciplined approach towards the studies makes one an independent intellectual thoroughly read and confident of his knowledge.

Self-study is an excellent way to develop deep insight into the areas one would like to explore. In addition to being affordable and convenient, self-study seems to be more effective than classroom teaching where a single teacher teaches a large group of heterogeneous students with different set of problems to be solved within a given time frame. It does not help in solving individual doubts.

With self -study students can go way ahead of their school curriculum and excel in their field of interest. Schooling does not need to be done necessarily in school. Studies done on your own can quench your thirst for knowledge.

An easy access to information technology makes self- study an important and effective tool to keep one a step ahead of others.

Remember, no one can defeat you except your own self ignorance. Self-learners develop themselves as much as they wish.

As the saying goes “Genius is the ability to independently arrive at and understand concepts that would normally have to be taught by another person’s an ocean of knowledge is available at the click of the button that can be explored as much as possible".

Though it is unlikely that Classroom studies will ever be replaced by online studies, yet students should make optimal use of the available resources and blend the two, thereby optimizing their results in examinations.

we have Clarefy has designed various types of study packages keeping in mind the students involvement in self study model. You can visit us at www.clarefy.com

Self Study ? - What did the HRD Minister say...

At this time, when everyone is suggested to maintain social distancing, students of class 10 should start self-study at their homes. They should understand the value of this time as they have entered an important phase of their academic life. They will appear for their first ever CBSE Board Exams next year, in 2021

In view of the current circumstances and after receiving a lot of requests from parents and teachers, we are contemplating the option of reduction in the syllabus and instructional hours for the coming academic year. This is what HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said.

The NCERT, in a meeting held on June 4, was asked by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to “analyse the Class X and XII syllabus and textbooks for the purpose of rationalisation of the curriculum this year”. The CBSE prescribes only NCERT textbooks to its affiliated schools.

The document says that while the topics taught by the teacher may be assessed in the Board examination, the self-study concepts can be covered in the school’s internal assessment. The CBSE sets aside 20 marks in each subject for internal assessment of the student. This, if accepted by CBSE, would mean that the Board examination next year will not assess students on topics and concepts that they have covered through self-study, assignments and projects.

In Political Science, Bolivia’s water war and the movement for democracy in Nepal are among topics that may not figure in the Board exam. In History, chapters ‘The Age of Industrialization’ and ‘Print Culture and the Modern World’ have been suggested for “project work and innovative activities”. The latter looks at the development of print (books, journals, newspapers, prints of famous paintings etc), from its beginnings in East Asia to its expansion in Europe and India.

According to sources in the NCERT, the draft document is still under discussion and could undergo further changes.

Are We Really All Connected by Just Six Degrees of Separation?

Most of us are familiar with the concept of six degrees of separation - the idea is that anyone in the planet can be connected to anyone else in just six steps. So through just five other people, you're effectively connected to Narendra Modi, Donald Trumph, the last man of Mahana, the Queen of England, Tom Cruise, or even a Mongolian sheep herder. But is there actually any science to back up this commonly cited theory?

If you just take a look at the numbers, the six degrees of separation idea seems pretty plausible. Assuming everyone knows at least 44 people, and that each of those people knows an entirely new 44 people, and so on, the maths shows that in just six steps everyone could be connected to 44^6, or 7.26 billion people - more than are alive on Earth today.

the whole basis of the theory came from a 1929 short story called Chains, in which one of the characters challenges the others to find another person on Earth that he can not connect himself to through fewer than five intermediaries.

This idea wasn't scientifically tested until the 1960s, when a psychologist sent 300 packages out to people in Nebraska and Boston, and asked them to use their networks to get them back to one specific target - a stockbroker living in Boston. They weren't asked to forward it to him directly, but to send it to someone they knew on a first name basis, with instructions for that person to forward it on to someone in their network that they thought might know the stockbroker.

Only 64 of those packages actually reached the target, with an average path length of just 5.2 intermediary connections, and this experiment was used as evidence for six degrees of separation, or the 'small world phenomenon', as the researcher called it.

But Derek dug a little deeper and found that, of the original 300 packages, 100 were sent to people already living in Boston (where the target also lives) and 100 were sent to stockbrokers who shared a profession with the target, so there were really only 100 purely random packages sent out. And of those 100, only 18 made it back to the target. "So we're talking about a sample size of 18 is all the evidence there was for six degrees of separation". You can download a related e-book at https://www.clarefy.com/download-section to know the real implementation of the theory.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The real breakthrough came a few decades later thanks to a college game called 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon', where students had to try and link any role model to Kevin Bacon via their co-stars in six steps or less.

Start to try to connect with your favorite person alive on earth.
